Roy Lai - Chairman of the Board
Mr. Roy Lai co-founded Confederal Technology Canada in 2007 and successfully designed
and commercialized the world first CDMA mobile communication system for coal mines.
By the end of April 2010, over 18 sets of systems had been deployed in China and
generated $20M sales revenue for China Coal Automation Research Institute. Prior
to that, he served as the General Manager of CDMA Division of Potevio Capitel,
the only State-owned provider of CDMA network solution in China, from 2001 to 2006.
With over 500 engineers under his leadership, Mr. Lai successfully developed and
commercialized 450MHz/800MHz/1900MHz CDMA cellular system and WLL system and got
commercial contracts from telecom carriers and other enterprise customers.
He has 18+ years experience of high ranking leadership in telecom industry since
he became the Managing Derector of R&D Department of Concord Telecom in 1992. He
holds a ME degree from Tsinghua University, China. He also is the Adjunct/Guest
Prof. of Beijing University of Posts and Telecom, China Academy of Sciences,Jiangsu
University of Science and Technology, Distinguished Professor of Polytechnic University,
Chief Expert of China Coal Automation Research Institute, IEEE senior member, and senior member of China Institute
of Electrons. He was ranked No.4 among the 2004' Top 10 Telecom Pepole in China.
He has (co)authored 9 Chinese patents and over 20 papers.
Son Vuong - Director of the Board
Dr. Son Vuong received his BS from California State University, Sacramento, USA, in 1972, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada where he was a lecturer and assistant professor in 1981-1982. Since 1983, he has been a professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where he founded the Distributed System Research Group and is now Director of the Laboratory for Networks and Internet Computing (NICLab). He is an international renowned researcher on the next generation network, protocol engineering, distributed multimedia systems, e-learning and mobile collaborative computing. His areas of research interest in recent years also include semantic search, p2p video streaming, ambient networks, security, and mobile e-Learning.
Dr. Vuong has (co)authored a US patent, over 200 papers and co-edited three books, including the book on "Recent Advances in Distributed Multimedia Systems" published in 1999. He has supervised thesis research of more than 80 graduate ( PhD and MSc) students. He served on many conference program committees and was (co)chair and (co)organizer of 10 international conferences. He served on the Canadian National Science and Engineering Research Council(NSERC) Grant Selection Committee in1999-2003, as well as on the Board of Directors of two high-tech companies with his vast interests in practical research and entrepreneurship.
Ashish Duggal - Chief Operation Officer
With 15 years of experience in IT industry, Ashish Duggal joined Confederal as Chief Operation Officer in December 2010. Prior to this role, Mr. Duggal held various positions of Sales, Engineering, Product Management and R&D with technology companies in North America. Mr. Duggal holds MSc and BSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Alberta, and he is the inventor of two US patents.
Simon Gao - CTO, China
Dr. Gao has over 13 years of experience in mobile telecom and IT industry. Prior to joining Confederal, he was the CTO of Internet of Things Department, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to that, Dr. Gao was the senior manager of Motorola China, in charge of GSM/UMTS products. Prior to joining Motorola, Dr. Gao was the CTO of CDMA Industry, Potevio Capitel. Dr. Gao holds a Ph.D degree in Telecom Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, and he is the inventor of over 30 patents.
Michael C.H.Hsia - COO China
Dr. Hsia has over 12 years of experience in software, Internet and telecom industry. Prior to joining Confederal, he was the founder and CEO of Leader China. Prior to that, Dr. Hsia was the Chief Operating Officer of Realma Digimedia company, the official Partner with Real networks. Prior to joining Realma, he was the Executive assistant of chairman of Tsann Kuen, the biggest 3C chain store and listed company in Taiwan and China. Prior to joining Tsann Kuen, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Great China of Yesmobile nearly 6 years, including 4 years in BJ, SH and HK. To be this position, Dr. Hsia built up a very strong connection with some international telecom company??s great china high level management team as Cisco, Nokia and Motorola. Mr. Hsia holds a master degree in social Informatics in Yuan-Ze University, studied PhD. program in Management of Information Service from The National Cheng Chi University in Taiwan, and a PhD in China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.
